What is Narumi Shibori Dyeing?

Narumi shibori is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique originating in the Edo period. It is primarily produced in the Narumi area of Midori Ward, Nagoya City,

Aichi Prefecture. This craft is known for its diverse patterns created through various tying techniques and their combinations. During the Edo period, it was a

popular souvenir for travelers along the Tokaido, becoming one of the region’s most famous products. The beauty of Narumi shibori has been captured in ukiyo-e

prints by artists such as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, making it an iconic Japanese art form.
